About the Orange Beach Billfish Classic

The Orange Beach Billfish Classic was formed in 1998 for the express purpose of providing financial support for organizations that speak effectively for all recreational fishermen. The OBBC quickly became a top event on the Gulf Coast tournament circuit and serves as an important fundraiser for The Billfish Foundation. Over the years the OBBC has donated over $650,000 to The Billfish Foundation and other conservation organizations. The OBBC is the country's only billfish tournament with 100% of all net profits donated to qualified 501(c)(3) conservation organizations and is the largest tournament donor to The Billfish Foundation.

The Billfish Foundation is recognized globally and has worked to advocate for reasonable fishery management solutions. Among its many accomplishments it has played a key role in improving stock of Atlantic billfish, implementing regulations prohibiting commercial sale of billfish in the United States, and restricting longline gear.

Since 2013 the Wharf Marina Entertainment Complex has hosted the Orange Beach Billfish Classic. Over the course of the four day event the crews, anglers and participants enjoy a series of fun and food filled events, from the kickoff party Wednesday night to the awards brunch Sunday morning. The organizers look forward to a big turnout this year in order to continue to support the organizations that fight for our resources.

The Orange Beach Billfish Classic kicks off the 2017 Gulf Coast tournament fishing season and is the first of the five Gulf Coast tournaments qualifying for the Gulf Coast Triple Crown Championship Series. The winners receive a trophy and are named the best fishing team of the year!
